Corrosion inhibition performance of a structurally well-defined 1,2,3-triazole derivative on mild steel-hydrochloric acid interface

2021

Abstract In the present work, a new 1,4-disubstituted-1,2,3-triazole product, named 4-[1-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-1H-[1,2,3]triazol-4-ylmethyl]-morpholine (MPTM) was successfully synthesized under click chemistry regime. The structure of the new compound that has a rigid triazole moiety and a flexible morpholine ligand has been characterized using 1H NMR, 13C NMR, HRMS, and FTIR spectroscopy. Its inhibition performance for mild steel in acidic medium 1 M HCl has been studied by utilizing a combination of experimental, spectroscopic and computational methods. The electrochemical characterization was carried out by a gravimetric study, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and potentiodynam…

Kinetic, isotherm and thermodynamic studies of the adsorption of methylene blue dye onto agro-based cellulosic materials

2015

AbstractThe purpose of this work is to establish the optimal experimental conditions for the removal of methylene blue (MB-as model basic dye) from aqueous solution by adsorption onto four agro-based materials, namely, cedar sawdust, pine sawdust, wheat straw, and Provence cane Arundo donax. Results show that an increase in acidity or ionic strength of the medium has generally a negative effect on the discoloration yield. From the data of pH effect, there is no need to change the initial pH of the MB solution to be treated. Equilibrium was reached after 20−30 min of agitation when cedar sawdust, pine sawdust, and Provence cane are used as adsorbents. However, in the case of wheat straw, an …

Binding of a fluorescent dansylcadaverine-substance P analogue to negatively charged phospholipid membranes.

2000

Abstract We have investigated the binding of a new dansylcadaverine derivative of substance P (DNC-SP) with negatively charged small unilamellar vesicles composed of a mixture of phosphatidylcholine (PC) and either phosphatidylglycerol (PG) or phosphatidylserine (PS) using fluorescence spectroscopic techniques. The changes in fluorescence properties were used to obtain association isotherms at variable membrane negative charges and at different ionic strengths. The experimental association isotherms were analyzed using two binding approaches: (i) the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the partition equilibrium model, that neglect the activity coefficients; and (ii) the partition equilibrium m…

Modeling of copper fixed-bed biosorption from wastewater by Posidonia oceanica

2009

Biosorption of copper from aqueous solutions by Posidonia oceanica was investigated in batch and fixed-bed experiments. Batch experiments were conducted to evaluate the removal equilibrium at pH 5.0 and 6.0; experimental data were fitted to Langmuir model with maximum uptake capacities of 56.92 and 85.78 mg g(-1), respectively. Five column experiments were carried out at different feed concentrations. Breakthrough times and continuous sorption isotherm were obtained from breakthrough curves. Differences among batch and continuous isotherms were observed; the maximum uptake capacity in dynamic conditions was found in 56.70 mg g(-1) for final pH between 5.0 and 5.5. The biosorbent was regener…

High Resolution Sorption Studies of Argon and Nitrogen on Large Crystals of Aluminophosphate AlPO4-5 AND ZEOLITE ZSM-5

1989

High resolution adsorption (HRADS) with argon and nitrogen at 77 K in the pressure range of 10−6 < p/p° < 0.5 were performed on large crystals of zeolite ZSM-5 (180 μm) and aluminophosphate AlPO4-5 (150 μm) using a novel volumetric device. Multi-step isotherms of both adsorptives on ZSM-5 could be observed for the first time. The adsorption followed by low temperature microcalorimetry resulted in distinct exothermic signals at the steps in the adsorption isotherms. Based on the results of atom-atom potential energy calculations (AAP) as well as independent model building it was shown that 24 ‘kinetic’ adsorbate molecules can be filled into a ZSM-5 unit cell. Experimental results are reasona…

High-resolution sorption studies of argon and nitrogen on large crystals of microporous zeolite ZSM-5

1989

High resolution adsorption (HRADS) with argon and nitrogen at 77 K were performed on large crystals of zeolite ZSM-5 using a novel volumetric device. Multi-step isotherms for both adsorptives could be observed for the first time. The micropore filling was followed by low temperature microcalorimetry. Exothermic heats of adsorption were found to be correlated with steps in the adsorption isotherms. Based on results from atom-atom potential energy calculations (AAP) as well as from independent model building it is shown that 24 kinetic adsorbate molecules can be situated in a ZSM-5 unit cell. Localized adsorption is presented as possible filling mechanisms. Experimental results are reasonably…

Sorption properties of algae Spirogyra sp. and their use for determination of heavy metal ions concentrations in surface water.

2010

Abstract Kinetics of heavy-metal ions sorption by alga Spirogyra sp. was evaluated experimentally in the laboratory, using both the static and the dynamic approach. The metal ions – Mn2+, Cu2+, Zn2+ and Cd2+ – were sorbed from aqueous solutions of their salts. The static experiments showed that the sorption equilibria were attained in 30 min, with 90-95% of metal ions sorbed in first 10 min of each process. The sorption equilibria were approximated with the Langmuir isotherm model. The algae sorbed each heavy metal ions proportionally to the amount of this metal ions in solution. The experiments confirmed that after 30 min of exposition to contaminated water, the concentration of heavy meta…

Analysis and parametric sensitivity of the behavior of overshoots in the concentration of a charged adsorbate in the adsorbed phase of charged adsorb…

2003

In this work, an analysis of the parametric sensitivity of the overshoot in the concentration of the adsorbate in the adsorbed phase, which occurs under certain conditions during an ion-exchange adsorption process, is presented and used to suggest practical implications of the concentration overshoot phenomenon on operational policies and configurations of chromatographic columns and finite bath adsorption systems. The results presented in this work demonstrate and explain how the development of an overshoot in the concentration of the adsorbate in the adsorbed phase could be enhanced or suppressed by (i) varying the diffusion coefficient, D3, of the adsorbate relative to the diffusion coef…

Resin adsorption as a means to enrich rare stilbenes and coumarin from pigeon pea leaves extracts

2011

Abstract In this study, resin adsorption as a means to enrich rare stilbenes cajaninstilbene acid (CSA) and longistyline C (LLC), and coumarin cajanuslactone (CL) from pigeon pea leaves was investigated. Among widely used twenty macroporous adsorption resins, NKA-9 resin presented higher adsorption capacity and desorption ratio in static tests. The adsorption kinetic model fitted better depended on types of compounds and pH values. The experimental adsorption data were better fitted to Langmuir isotherm (R2 0.921–0.991) than Freundlich isotherm (R2 0.753–0.988). In order to optimize the operating parameters for separating CSA, LLC and CL, dynamic adsorption and desorption tests were carried…

Supercritical Fluid Adsorption of Domperidone on Silica Aerogel

2013

Silica aerogel (SA) was loaded with domperidone to demonstrate the potentiality of adsorption processes based on the usage of supercritical carbon dioxide to treat poorly water-soluble drugs, forming new kinds of drug delivery systems. The effects of pressure, temperature and solution concentration on loaded SA were studied. Adsorption isotherms were measured at 35℃ and 45℃ and fitted with Langmuir model. Release kinetics of the adsorbed drug were also evaluated by in vitro dissolution tests. Results showed that domperidone can be uniformly dispersed into the aerogel and that the release rate of domperidone from the composite, constituted by drug and silica aerogel, is much faster than that…
